Ruth M. Spicer

Ruth Marjorie Spicer, 91, of Palatka, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2011, at the Kiva of Palatka Assisted Living following an extended illness.

Born Dec. 6, 1919, in Colfax, La., Ruth had been a resident of Palatka for the past seven years, having come from Zephyrhills. She worked as a secretary at the Army base in Pineville, La., before working for 21 years at the Arnot Ogden Memorial Hospital in Elmira, N.Y. Mrs. Spicer was a two time breast cancer survivor.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Eugene Spicer; her parents, Wayne and Sallie Roach Peters; and a son-in-law, John C. Baston Jr.

Mrs. Spicer is survived by her daughter, Sally Baston of Palatka; a son and daughter-in-law, Eugene Lester and Dorothy Spicer of Scotia, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Jennifer Spicer, Christopher Spicer, Heather White, Mathew Stiefel, Joshua Stiefel and Rocky Stiefel; three great-grandchildren, Bevin Spicer, Sage Spicer and Riley Stiefel; and many step-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be Saturday, May 7, at 11 a.m. at the First Assembly of God with Pastor Ted Stackpole officiating. In honor and celebration of Ruth's life, a video tribute will be shown.
