S. T. McDonald, Sr.

S. T. McDonald, Sr., 89, died April 26, 2004, following a lengthy illness. Mr. McDonald was born June 10, 1914, in Harrisonburg, La., and lived in Baskin, La., for more than 60 years.

Before his retirement in 1984, Mr. McDonald worked 25 years for Deltic Farm and Timber as a Senior Woodsman for the Woodlands Section of the Waverly, La., farm division. After retirement, at age 70, he worked for Mac's Minnows for several years. Mr. McDonald was a member of Baskin Baptist Church where he served in many different capacities and where he and his wife reared their children in the fear and admonition of the Lord. He was the last surviving, charter member of the Reagan Cemetery located in Baskin, where he will be laid to rest.

Mr. McDonald is preceded in death by his spouse, Mary Lee Corley McDonald, whom he wed on March 5, 1936, and celebrated 65 years of marriage together in 2001. He was also preceded in death by a son who died in infancy, an adult son, William Earl McDonald, and a great-grandchild, Whitney Bombardier. Others who preceded him in death were his parents, Marshall and Annie McDonald, and brothers, Bryan McDonald, Bill McDonald, A. C. McDonald, Asa McDonald, and C. M. (Mahier) McDonald; and sisters, Maud Slade and Ruth Morehead. One sibling survives, sister, Mildred ``Lovie'' McDonald Mercer, who resides in San Angelo, Texas.

Surviving children who live in Winnsboro, include one daughter, Elaine McDonald Wiltshire and husband, James, and two sons, Charles McDonald and wife, Sue, and S.T. McDonald, Jr., and wife, Janis. Grandchildren include; Judy Wiltshire Pickering of Mangham, Jennifer McDonald Tarver and Carol McDonald of Winnsboro, Misty McDonald Bombardier of Lewisville, Texas. Great grandchildren are R. J. Posey, Jon and Sara Tarver, Serenity and Joey Bombardier.

Mr. McDonald will be missed by a host of friends and care givers at Plantation Manor where he resided for the past two years. All those who knew him will miss his quick wit and charm as well as his winning smile and loving nature. He desired to be a gentleman to the end; he achieved his goal with great dignity.

The funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Marion Spence at the Baskin Baptist Church at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2004, under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home Winnsboro. Serving as pallbearers will be Mr. McDonald's nephew, Charles McDonald, Charles' two sons, Matthew and Adam McDonald, all of Mangham, Melvin Case, who taught Mr. McDonald's Sunday School Class, and long time family friends in his church, Danny Barber, Allen Barber, Kenny Banks and Frank Reese.

Honorary pallbearers will be Marshall McDonald, Clyde McDonald, Joe McDonald and Patrick McDonald.
