One Dead, Five Hurt In Brookhaven Wreck
Highway Collision On City Outskirts
BROOKHAVEN, Apr. 27 -- One person was killed and five injured in a wreck on the outskirts of Brookhaven Sunday afternoon.
The dead woman is Mrs. Sallie Harrington, 76, Brookhaven.
The injured include three of her daughters, Mrs. Cramer Roberts, Brookhaven, Miss Elsie Harrington, Brookhaven, and Mrs. W. L. Bowen, Jr., Meridian, and a ten-year old granddaughter, Catherine Robert. Holis S. Johnson, Summit, driver of the car, was also injured.
All five are in the Kings Daughters Hospital with extent of injuries undetermined.
Investigating patrolmen said that Johnson's southbound car hit the car driven by Mrs. Roberts broadside at the intersection of Highways 84 and 51. The officers said that Mrs. Roberts had the right-of-way on a green light.
In addition to three daughters who were injured in the wreck, Mrs. Harrington is survived by another daughter, Mrs. J. O. Keith [sic J. Q. Keith], of Drew, and three sons, James P. Harrington, Brookhaven, Harold Harrington, Columbia, and Gerald Harrington, Los Angeles, California.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Hartman Funeral Home will have charge of the services.
