Samuel C. Corder
Graveside services with full military honors for Samuel C. Corder, 90, of Killeen, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Killeen Memorial Park.
He died Dec. 13, 2007.
Samuel was born Aug. 22, 1917, in Carrollton, Miss., to Edna Barbara Emmons and Sammie Corder. He married Vera Clark on May 11, 1940, and they had two daughters, Barbara and Cheryl.
Sam served his country in World War II and the Korean War. He was an active member of the U.S. Army for 20 years until retiring in 1966.
Sam spent another 12 years in duty to civil service. He enjoyed gardening and a good meal. Sam loved his food. Sam and Vera moved from Killeen to Houston in 1999 to be closer to their family. Due to declining heath, Sam became a resident of Vista Continuing Care in Pasadena in April 2007.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years on Sept. 30, 2006, and a daughter, Barbara Lynn Corder.
Survivors include his daughter, Cheryl Corder Irving and her husband, Doug; grandchildren, Lee Todd Gotcher of Houston, Nikki DeVallier of League City and Kristin Irving Libby of Pasadena; great-grandchildren, Amber Pruett and Dustin Prutt of Heber Springs, Ark., Zach Devillier and Spencer Libby; nephews, Homer Howard King of Dallas and Frank (Buddy) Corder of Cummings, Ga.; and a host of other family and friends.
The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen.
