Was World War I Vet

Funeral services for Samuel Dixon Johnson, 50-year-old Smithfield veteran of World War I who died at his home Tuesday night following an illness of several days, were conducted on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 from Trinity Baptist church at Peacock's Cross Roads.

Burial was in the family cemetery at Benson, Route 1. The Rev. Charlie Johnson officiated.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Louise Johnson; three sons, Edward Johnson of Selma and James D. and Neal Johnson, both of the home; five daughters, Mrs. B. D. Stafford of Stone Creek, Va. and Linda, Laruth, Helen and Martha Ann Johnson, all of the home.

Six brothers, J. M. Johnson of Jonesboro, Route 3, Willie Johnson of Clayton, Rufus Johnson of Benson, Route 2, Leander Johnson of Arlington, Va., Hubert Johnson of Washington, D.C., and William L. Johnson of Four Oaks, Route 2, and four sisters, Mrs. Alex Allen of Four Oaks, Route 2, Mrs. T. R. Allen of Four Oaks, Route 3, Mrs. Eliza Dunn of Four Oaks and Mrs. Jasper C. Hudson of Benson.
