SHREVEPORT, LA - Samuel E. Smith, D.D.S., 80, passed away at Christus Schumpert on May 23, 2003 after a lengthy illness. Visitation will be held at Osborn Funeral Home on Sunday, May 25th from 12 noon until 2 p.m. Graveside services will begin at 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 25, 2003 at Pelican Cemetery, Pelican, Louisiana.
Dr. Smith was a native of Fordoche, LA and a resident of Shreveport for 55 years. He was a member of East Ridge Bible Church, a former member of First Baptist Church of Shreveport and a Gideon. He was a graduate of Emory University School of Dentistry. Dr. Smith ``Doc'' was a veteran of both WW II and the Korean conflict serving as a Lieutenant in the U. S. Navy. Following his military service, he established a dental practice in Shreveport on Southern Ave. in 1948.
Dr. Smith is survived by one daughter, Laurie Faith Bibby and fiancé, Rick Boswell, and her son, Matthew Tobin Bibby; one son, Reverend Kemper Smith and wife, Anne and children, Scott, Jonathan, David, and James Beeson; two sisters, Betty Brownfield and Lola McGinnis; two brothers, Carol and Howard Smith; former wife, Mary Martin Smith and devoted friend, Merle Lunsford.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Harold Forbing, Dr. Frank Maranto, Rex Bain, Tillman Franks, Claude King, Nicholas Bibby, Davis Bland and Barney Clemmens.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to East Ridge Bible Church, Dr. Lloyd Whitley and the staff of Christus Schumpert.
