DIBOLL -- Services for Sam Gates, 82, a retired foreman, will be at 11:30 a.m. today at Gipson Funeral Home in Diboll, Bro. Walter Sharry officiating.

Burial will be at Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mr. Gates died Thursday morning at his residence in Diboll.

He was born in Montgomery County, Texas, and lived in Texas City for 59 years and in Diboll for 9 years.

He had worked as a railroad switch foreman for the Texas City Terminal for 25 years. He was a 40-year member of the United Transportation Union and Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and a member of Burke Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lurlin[e] Gates of Diboll; a daughter, Geraldine Curry of Diboll; three sons, James A. Burch and Lloyd M. Burch both of Texas City, and Jerry W. Malone of Omaha, Neb.; a brother, Dan Gates of Pasadena; a sister, Mrs. Minnie Lou House of Pasadena; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Levy Ellison, John Bowman, Milton Celestine, Phillip Villarreal, Walter Burch and Jim Burch.
