SAMUEL GORDON OGLE

On August 22, 2000 at the age of 81, SAMUEL GORDON OGLE died. He was the beloved husband of Cecilia Haas Ogle a native of Halletsville, to whom he was married for 52 years.

He is survived by his five children and their spouses: Gordon and Marlene Ogle of Bethel Park, PA; Kathryn Anderson, Yvonne and Boyd Sexton, David and Jill Ogle, and Susan and Scott Williams, all of Houston, TX. Sam has nine grandchildren, Holly Miller, Michael Dimitt, Alyssa, Cecelia, Debra Anderson, Wendy and Robert Ogle, Sam and Sion Williams.

Sam was born on March 4, 1919 in Redden, Oklahoma. He was a member of the Choctaw nation. He was extremely proud of his Indian heritage. Sam grew up in San Antonio, Texas. Sam is the son of Ethel Marie Prince Ogle and Oran Ogle.

Sam maintained a love of San Antonio all of his life. He was a veteran of WWII. He served in the U. S. Navy on the USS Milwaukee. Sam participated at the battle of Anzio. Sam also saw action in the Korean and Vietnam War while serving in the Merchant Marines as an engineer. He retired from Memorial Southwest Hospital. He was a hunter and fisherman and enjoyed painting, metalworking, and woodcarving. Sam was a Mason and attended meetings at the Park Place Lodge.

He spent the last few years of his life enjoying fishing and nature while staying at his home in Sargent, Texas, on Caney Creek. He enjoyed entertaining everyone with is witty stories and details of historical information. Sam will be dearly missed by his family and by his two faithful companions, Sandy and Muffin.

Funeral service will be held Friday, August 25, 2000 in the Chapel of Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer, at 10:30 A.M. Interment to follow at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
