S. L. Richardson rites Sunday at Poplarville

POPLARVILLE -- Services for Samuel L. “Luke” Richardson, 89, who died Friday evening in Pearl River County Hospital, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church here.

Dr. Robert B. Barnes, Rev. J.P. Payne and Rev. Z.B. McAlpin will officiate. Burial will be in Forrest Lawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Richardson, a member of the First Baptist Church, was a retired bookkeeper who formerly worked for J.B. White Motor Co. He was a former secretary of the Poplarville Rotary Club. Mr. Richardson taught school for a number of years in New Mexico and in Winston and Smith Counties in Mississippi. He was a native of Smith County.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Maxine Watts of Poplarville and Mrs. Edwina Evje of Stockton, Calif.; three brothers, Thomas Richardson of Greenville, S.C., S.S. Richardson of Mt. Olive, and Coley Richardson of Jackson; six sisters, Mrs. E.J. Huff of Mt. Olive, Mrs. E.S. Flynt of Biloxi, Mrs. E.T. McAlpin, Mrs. G.C. Coleman and Mrs. Terry Council, all of Magee and Mrs. Harvey Fortenberry of McComb; five grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
