Winnsboro man on lawn mower dies in crash

A Winnsboro man died Friday after the riding lawn mower he was driving was struck by a car.

Shortly before 5:50 p.m., state troopers responded to a crash that occurred on Louisiana 3201 south of Winnsboro. The crash took the life of 66-year-old Samuel Reynolds.

The initial investigation by troopers indicated Reynolds was driving a lawn mower in the roadway eastbound on Louisiana 3201 at a slow rate of speed. An eastbound 2003 Lincoln Towncar, driven by 51-year-old Curtis Hilbun of Wisner, collided with the lawn mower from behind.

Reynolds suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Franklin Parish Coroner’s Office. Hilbun, who was properly restrained, was not injured in the crash.

Routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

In 2016, Louisiana State Police Troop F has investigated 35 fatal crashes resulting in 36 deaths.
