Fitzgerald, Samuel Robert
A retired U.S. Government civil service employee with 30 years of service and a resident of Wilson, he died Friday, Aug. 26, 2005, at the age of 92. He was a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.
Visiting at Charlet Funeral Home Inc., Clinton, on Sunday, Aug. 28, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Monday, Aug. 29, from 10 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Alvin Hall. Interment in Eastern Star Cemetery, Wilson.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Robin Fitzgerald and Michael Krotz, Redondo Beach, Calif.; and two granddaughters, Kathryn Corine Krotz and DeLayne Fitzgerald Santos.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Grace Falconer Fitzgerald; son, Daniel Lane Fitzgerald; two sisters and three brothers.
Pallbearers will be Mike Krotz, Brad Bowman, Donald Simpson, Terry Fitzgerald, Brandon Bowman and Zachary Simpson.
He was a 1934 graduate of LSU School of Engineering, and completed his graduate work at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was employed by Gulf States Utilities until 1940, when he began working for the U.S. Civil Service Commission as a chemical engineer in 1941, and retired in 1971. He also retired as a lieutenant colonel with the U.S. Air Force Reserve in 1967. He was a longtime resident of Fort Walton Beach, Fla. In 1972, he began a second career in Wilson raising cattle. He lived two full and productive lives in receipt of God's blessings.
