Samuel W. Maloney
Samuel W. Maloney died on October 23, 2004. Husband to Katherine J. Maloney (nee McCracken), father to Lawrence W. Maloney, Carol A. Graves, Joan M. Roberts and Barbara K. Lamb, grandfather to 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
At the time of his death Mr. Maloney was living in Wills Point, TX near his daughter Barbara. Mr. Maloney was a resident of Midwest City, OK from 1954 until 1997. Mr. and Mrs. Maloney were members of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church.
Mr. Maloney was born September 16, 1917 in Dayton, MD and was one of eight children born to William and Emma Maloney. In December 1939, he joined the Air Force, serving over 20 years and rising to the rank of Master Sergeant. At Pearl Harbor, he was assigned to the 26th Bomber Squadron at Hickman Field Hawaii where his unit came under enemy fire. He received the American Defense Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the American Campaign Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with three bronze Service Stars for the Central Pacific, East Indies and Papua, The World War II Victor Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal/Japan. Mr. Maloney's unit was one of the first U.S. units into Japan at the end of WWII.
He met and married Katherine in Dalhart, TX on January 26, 1943. At Mrs. Maloney's death, in February 1999, they had been married for 56 years.
Returning from England in 1954, Mr. Maloney was assigned to Tinker AFB where he retired for the Air Force and later worked as a Civil Servant for seven years as an engineer technical specialist for the J5 engine. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight.
Wake services will be held 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 26, 2004, at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church with funeral services to be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 27, 2004 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Arlington Memory Gardens.
