DR. S. P. J. LEE SUCCUMBS AFTER WEEK'S ILLNESS
Dr. S. P. J. Lee, 64, prominent Johnston county physician and dentist, died at his home on Benson, Route 2, Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. He had been ill for a week, and his death was attributed to uremic acid.
For more than 40 years, Dr. Lee had been prominent in the affairs of the county and was recognized as one its leading physicians. A native of Johnston, he was the son of the late Marshall and Elizabeth Tart Lee, also of Johnston county. He attended Turlington Institute at Smithfield, Richmond Dental College, in Richmond, and Maryland Medical College, at Baltimore. He received his D. D. S. degree in 1898 and his M. D. degree in 1903.
After completing his course in dentistry, he practiced for a time in Smithfield.
Dr. Lee was a member of the Benson Baptist church, and the pastor, Rev. F. L. Young, Rev. A. L. Benton of Bentonville, and Rev. E. N. Gardner of Dunn conducted the funeral service which was held Sunday afternoon in the First Baptist church in Dunn. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery at Dunn.
Surviving Dr. Lee aare his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Wagstaff Lee; one son, Charles Lee of Dunn; a daughter, Miss Charlotte Lee of Beulaville; two brothers, Dr. J. M. Lee of Newton Grove and J. P. Lee of Rocky Mount; and three sisters; Mrs. Vera Thornton of Dunn, Mrs. Willie Morgan of Angier and Mrs. George Warren of Newton Grove.
Mr. and Mrs. Hobart Lee of this city attended the funeral. Mr. Lee, a cousin of the deceased, was one of the pallbearers.
