SARA FOSTER
OKLAHOMA CITY -- Sara Ann Foster was born at Gould, OK, to George Marvin and Veda Tillery Moon. She graduated from Altus High School in 1951 where she was active in music and was a member of the KAY Club. Sara continued to be active in music at Oklahoma City University and was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota Honorary Music Fraternity. She was also a charter member of Delta Delta Chapter of Alpha Phi.
After a BA in Music and Elementary Education, Sara completed a Master of Education at OCU and earned a Reading Specialist Certification from the University of Central Oklahoma. She taught first grade at Harmony (now MLK) and Bodine Elementary Schools in OKC.
In 1953, Sara married Charles Barker Foster and remained happily married for almost 59 years. In 1979, Charles began work for the Saudi Arabian Educational Mission in California so Sara moved there with him and taught first grade for an additional 20 years in the Corona-Norco School District. In 1981, Charles became Vice-President of ELS Language Centers, traveling throughout the world with Sara at his side during summer months. In 1998, they retired to Oklahoma City to be near family.
Sara is survived by four fabulous nieces and their families: Janeal Louise Foster O'Nan and husband Ralph of Broken Arrow, Gloria Foster Land of Lawton, Suzette Foster Russo and husband Carlos of Lafayette, LA, and Sheri Diane Foster Stephens and husband Dean of Oklahoma City. She is also survived by a cousin, Kenton Wininger of Glasgow, KY.
Sara was active in church life at St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral, in the choir, the kitchen guild, St. Catherine's Guild, and was a lector in the liturgical ministry.
A memorial service celebrating Sara's life will be held at the Cathedral on Saturday, Aug. 4, at 11 a.m.
