Mrs. S. E. Hyde, 84, Dies at Ranch Home; Interment at Sunset

Mrs. Sarah E. Hyde, 84, died Saturday at her ranch home above Mountain Home, after a month's illness. Funeral services were held in the family residence Sunday afternoon with Rev. Paul C. Van Dyke, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment was in the Sunset Cemetery, directed by the Smith Funeral Home.

Special music was given by Mr. and Mrs. O. R. Hunt of Ingram and A. B. Hardin of Hunt.

Mrs. Hyde was a native of Columbus, and was married in 1873 to the late Theodore Hyde, at Wharton, and seven years later, the family moved to Kerr County. For the last 39 years she had lived on the Divide, and since the death of her husband she has continued to live on the ranch, making her home with her son, Walter. She was young for her years, and until her last illness was able to look after her household duties and made trips to Kerrville and other places she wished to go. She was active in church affairs and was interested in all that went on in the community. She was well informed on events of the day and kept up with the world at large by reading the newspapers and listening to the radio.

Pallbearers were Leonard Hyde, Earl Hyde, Ivy R. Heffernan, Walter Welch, Wiley Alexander and Jim Motte.

The survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Tom Secrest of Uvalde and Mrs. Oakley Jones of San Antonio, and four sons, T. M., Hiram, Walter and Arthur, all of Mountain Home. There are also 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. M. E. Dobie, of Wimberly, also survived. Another son, Guy Hyde, preceded his mother in death about ten years ago.
