Lt. Moss dies in air crash

A funeral service will be held here Sunday for a former Tucsonian who was killed this week when his jet fighter crashed during an Air National Guard training mission about 15 miles north of El Paso.

Lt. Scotty Wayne Moss, 26, was killed after the A7D he was piloting crashed in a desert area at about 11:15 a.m. Wednesday. He was with the 188th Tactical Fighter Squadron of the New Mexico Air National Guard.

A Guard spokesman, Capt. Henry S. Parker, said no information on the crash would be made public until the investigation was completed.

Lt. Moss moved to Albuquerque two years ago, and worked as an instructor at a private pilot's school.

He graduated from the University of Arizona in 1972 with a bachelor of science degree in zoology. At Flowing Wells High School, he was an honor student and outstanding athlete, earning varsity letters in basketball, baseball and football.

A Guard spokeman here said Lt. Moss had served with the 162nd Tactical Fighter Group in Tucson for about three years, and took undergraduate pilot training in Phoenix before moving to Albuquerque.

Survivors include his widow, Vicki, and a 2 1/2 -year-old daughter, Kori, both of Albuquerque; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Moss, of Tucson; a sister, Melanie; and a grandmother, Marie Green, both also of Tucson; and a grandmother, Jessie Moss, of Little Rock, Ark.

The service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1825 N. Alvernon Way. Burial will be at Tucson Memorial Park East Lawn.

Visitation will be held at Arizona Mortuary, 7 E. University Blvd., tomorrow, and Sunday until noon.
