ARLINGTON - Shirley Whatley Metz Hilgenfeld, 77, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, in Arlington.
Graveside service: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Southland Cemetery with members of the VFW officiating. Visitation: Friends will be given the chance to view Mrs. Hilgenfeld before services begin at the cemetery.
Shirley Whatley Metz Hilgenfeld was born Jan. 13, 1921, in Oklahoma City. She moved to Wichita Falls at age seven. She attended Alamo School, Zundelowitz Jr. High, and graduated from Wichita Falls Senior High School. She also attended Hardin Junior College and Baylor University. She was an active member of Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 4477 for 30 years. She was past president of the auxiliary and past District 3 president, a V.A. Hospital volunteer for many years and also a member of Eastern Star 794 in Dallas.
Survivors: Husband, Clarence Hilgenfeld; stepdaughter, Carol Montfort; step-granddaughter, Dee May of Shreveport, La.; niece, Jean Avera of Austin; nephews, Dr. Bob Ellis of Louisville, Ky, Bumba Allred of Edmond, Okla., Dr. David Allred of Greenwood, S.C.; and adopted family, Ron, Rose and Katie Lyon of Weatherford.
