Final Rites for Shirley Kulek
Shirley Kulek, the daughter of Earl and Mary Long Leesley, was born June 2, 1924, at Omaha, Nebraska. She passed away unexpectedly at her home north of Guide Rock, Nebraska on Thursday, June 30, 1983, at the age of 59 years and 28 days.
Shirley had resided in Custer County, Nebraska, with her family until 1934, then moving to Plattsmouth, Nebraska, where she attended school. She graduated from High School there in 1940.
On November 20, 1955, she was united in marriage to Floyd Kulek at Papillion, Nebraska. They moved to the farm in Webster County, north of Guide Rock, where they made their home and raised their family.
In her leisure hours, Shirley enjoyed working crossword puzzles and reading. She enjoyed visiting with neighbors and friends, and her family were especially important to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mrs. Doris Hoover; and three brothers, Gerald, Edwin and Donald Leesley.
Surviving are her husband, Floyd; a son, Kevin Kulek, and wife, Debbie, of Juniata, Nebraska; two daughters, Kim Horne and husband Val, of Guide Rock, and Lannis Ewart, and husband Robert, of Hastings, Nebraska; five grandsons, Dustin and Eric Horne, and Robbie, Timothy and Bradley Cusatis; a brother, Irwin Leesley, of Ashland, Nebraska; one sister, Mrs. Virginia Lee, of Los Angeles, California; other relatives and her many friends.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, July 2, 1983, from the Simonson-Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Red Cloud with the Reverend Joan Ranney officiating. Mrs. Louise Eldred sang, ``In the Garden'' and ``The Old Rugged Cross,'' accompanied by Mrs. Betty Rasser, organist. The pallbearers were Clarence Schutte, Ron Schutte, Bob Albin, Jim Hoit, Carl Hartman and Jesse Schmidt. Interment was in the Guide Rock Cemetery.
