Sidney Julius Cockerham
November 26, 1927 - December 16, 2004
Sidney Julius Cockerham, age 77, of Waxahachie died at the Dallas VA Hospital on Thursday, December 16, 2004, one day short of his fifty-fifth wedding anniversary, following a courageous battle against myelodysplastic syndrome.
He was born November 26, 1927 in Waxahachie, TX to L. A. and Edna Cockerham. He attended Red Oak public schools, and served in the Marine Corps during WWII stationed at Naval Base San Diego, CA. On December 17, 1949, he was united in marriage to Joan Barlow in Red Oak.
Sidney worked as a tool designer for Larkin Packer in Waxahachie from 1956 to 1986. He was affectionately called ``Sid'' by his close friends and co-workers.
Sidney was a member of the Red Oak Church of Christ.
Sidney is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Joan; his sons, Sidney Joe of Dallas and Roy of Waxahachie; his daughter and her husband, Julia and Javier Zavala of Waxahachie; two grandchildren, Jillian Jaggers of Austin and Jonathon Jaggers of Waxahachie; two brothers, Floyd Cockerham and his wife, Billie and Douglas Cockerham and his wife, Rebecca all of Red Oak. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Gay Thomas.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, December 19, in the chapel of the Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home, 511 W. Main Street, Waxahachie, TX with Wayne England officiating. Interment will follow at the Red Oak Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ron Sanderson, Jonathon Jaggers, Tony Chaney, Javier Zavala, Dusty Arthur and Raymond Cockerham.
The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
