Spencer Williams
Services for Chief of Police of Ball, Spencer Williams, will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Ball with Rev. Mike Hedrick officiating. Spencer died July 3, 2005 at Rapides Regional Medical Center, after an 18 month battle with cancer.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jane; brother, Allan; and father-in-law, Ottis Stringer.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Beth; his son, Wade; father, LeRoy Williams of Ball; sister, Nanci Turner of Pollock; sister-in-law, Fran Williams of Ball; brother-in-law, Mayo Stringer of Union City, TN; mother-in-law and step-father-in-law, Doris and Henry Browning of Ball; three step brother-in-laws, Verlin, Lee and Stephen Browning, all of Orange, Texas; two nieces and four nephews.
Spencer was a 1973 graduate of Tioga High School and entered law enforcement in 1974. He served as the First Assistant Chief of Police. He has held this elected office of Chief of Police the longest since the town's incorporation. Spencer was Chief of Police from October 1987 to present and was Assistant Chief of Police of Ball for 1 ? years. He was a policemen in Ball for 5 ? years and a member of the Board of Directors, Metro Narcotics for the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Department. Mr. Williams was certified in Arson Investigating, Radar Detection, Louisiana Uniform Crime Reporting, and Post Certified in Law Enforcement.
Spencer was a member of the Law Enforcement Hall of Fame, Who's Who in American Law Enforcement, Ball Elementary Parent Teacher Club, Tioga High School Parent Teacher Club, Tioga High School Band Parent Club, La. Association of Chiefs of Police, and North La. Chief of Police Association. He worked closely with area schools for Drug Awareness, assisted Women's Service League of Ball in providing needy children with toys at Christmas and volunteered for Cerebral Palsy Telethon and St. Jude's Hospital. He was also a member of the La. Cattlemen's Association, a school bus driver for 25 years, and a member of First Baptist Church of Ball where he previously served as Sunday School Superintendent. He was also a charter member of the Ball Volunteer Fire Department.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 5, 2005 from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Hixson Brothers in Pineville and from 10:00 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Restland Memorial Park at Pollock.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Martin, Carl Bordelon, Wayne Clark, Jason Kendrick, Chad Comeaux and Bradley Coburn. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Peterson, Quinton Warner, Terry Driggers, Phillip Tarver, Larry Conn, Clyde Moore, Roy Hebron and Butch Lindsay.
