SPURGEON “PAPA” DAVIS
Spurgeon “Papa” Davis, 91, Laurel died Thursday at Jones County Community Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday from Holder-Parker Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. Mac Parker and J. M. Foy officiating. Burial will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Davis was born in Newton County and lived in Jones County for the past 50 years. He is a retired sawmill worker and a member of Grace Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth McDaniel Davis, and three sons, Austin Davis, Willie Davis and Willard Davis.
Survivors include three sons, Hilton H. Davis, and Harold G. Davis, both of Mobile, Ala., and Elbert Davis, Laurel; one daughter, Mrs. Mac (Norma Lee) Parker, Laurel; 20 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren, and 18 great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and visitation is after 4 p.m. today.
Holder-Parker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
