Spurgeon Ray Parker

Spurgeon Ray Parker, 72, of Laurel, died Monday, May 23, 2011, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 26, at Fair Ridge Baptist Church with burial to follow in Fair Ridge Cemetery. Rev. Buddy Jennings, Rev. Richard Bates and Rev. David McNeil will be officiating. Mr. Parker will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

He was a retired construction worker and a member of Fair Ridge Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He served in the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Parker; his parents, Alvis and Earline McBay Parker; and two brothers, James Howard Parker and Clifton Parker.

He is survived by one son, Stacy Parker of Stringer; daughter and son-in-law, Christi and Jamie Stringer of Stringer; grandchildren, Cole Stringer, Parker LeAnn Stringer, Thomas Ray Parker, all of Stringer, and Jake and Jackson Parker of the Hebron Community; great-grandchildren, Logan and Carson Parker; two brothers, Mack Parker and Charles Edward Parker; and one sister, Christine Elrod.

Pallbearers will be Kenny McCarty, Karl Parker, Larry Dykes, Forrest Ray Sims, Tommy Jeff Buckley and Buddy Stringer. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Dale Henry, Jimmy Parker, Tommy Grant and Ray Belvins.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Memory Chapel, which is in charge of arrangements.
