Spurgeon Tibbs

Spurgeon Tibbs, 71, of 122 Howard St., NE, retired farmer and restaurateur, died unexpectedly yesterday morning at the residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today in the chapel of Howard L. Carmichael & Sons. The Rev. Austell Youmans will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.

Mr. Tibbs farmed for many years in Alabama and Fulton County prior to opening a restaurant on Glenn St., SE, in the early 1930s. He retired 10 years ago. He was a native of Vance, Ala., and a member of the Baptist church.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Louise Phole and Mrs. Ed Lyons, and two sons, Clarence J. and Claude M. Tibbs, all of Atlanta.
