Stanton Carl Arendts

Stanton Carl Arendts 65 former partner in the Jefferson Highway garage in Kensett died Saturday March 31 at a Mason City Hospital.

Mr. Arendts was born September 28, 1918 in Kensett to Carl and Cora (Tenold) Arendts and attended Kensett schools, graduating from Kensett High School in 1936.

He attended Luther College for one year, later attending the U. S. Naval Academy where he graduated in 1941.

He married Ola Mae Boyette on May 30, 1942 in Reno, Nevada.

He served in the Navy during World War II and retired in 1949 as a Lieutenant commander. He then went into partnership with his father in the Jefferson Highway Garage in Kensett where he also operated a Ford Auto dealership. He retired in 1981.

He served as fire chief of Kensett for many years and was a member of the department. He was was a member of the Kensett Lions Club where he was a past president and belonged to the VFW club in Northwood.

Mr. Arendts was a past member of the Kensett School Board and a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church of Kensett where he was on the building committee Board. He was also a member of the automobile association on both the state and national levels.

Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Kensett with the Rev. Harry Peterson officiating. Burial was in the Kensett Cemetery.

Music was furnished by Eldren Brunsvold soloist and Mrs. Larry Christianson organist.

Hon. pallbearers were Emil Dybvad, Otto Ostby, Hardine Tenold, Dr. M. P. Allison, Arnold Jorde, Milton Berge, Eldren Brunsvold, Arley Thompson, and Tom Fretty.

Serving as pallbearers were Doyle Clagett, Bob Mogk, Arnie Luckason, Orland Tenold, Bob Thoe and Louie Fredrickson. Graveside military services by VFW Post 6779 preceded the interment at the Kensett Cemetery.

Mr. Arendts is survived by his wife Ola Mae; his mother Cora Arendts, Northwood, 3 daughters, Mrs Darrell (Andra) Zamacona, Oakland, California, Mrs. Larry (Jackie) Aase, Fairbanks, Alaska, and Mrs. Robert (Teresa) Gaskill, Marshalltown, a son Stanton C. Arendts, Memphis, Tennessee,; and a sister Mrs. John (Della) Holmen, Pittsburg, California.
