Sterling Holmes

Funeral services for Sterling C. Holmes, 67, resident of Vieux Carre Apartments, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday from Wright & Ferguson Chapel, with Dr. W. Douglas Hudgins officiating. Holmes died Wednesday afternoon in St. Doninic's [sic St. Dominic's] Hospital, following an il[l]ness of several weeks.

He was a native of McComb, a former resident of Dallas, Tex., and had made his home in Jackson for the past 24 years. Prior to his retirement he was, for over 16 years, an accountant with Mississippi Federated Co-Op. He was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include his widow, the former Mildred Buce of Winnfield, La.; four daughters, Mrs. Horton Griffin of Louisville, Mrs. Cecil Kuhne of Lubbock, Tex., Mrs. Dave Savage of Dallas, Tex., and Mrs. Mike Wilkinson of Ocala, Fla.; two sons, Sterling Carter Holmes, Jr. and Robert Ford Holmes, both of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; one brother, James S. Holmes of Jackson; one sister, Mrs. Fred J. Hurst of Jackson; and eight grandchildren.

Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park.
