Funeral services for Sybil McCarty Christman will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011, at College Place Baptist Church in Monroe with Rev. Jimmy Pitson officiating. Burial will be in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.

Mrs. Christman was born August 6, 1925 in Sikes, LA to the union of George Monroe McCarty and Nola Crain McCarty. She passed away at North Monroe Hospital after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Inez Kidd; and her brothers, DJ McCarty, Charles McCarty, and Douglas McCarty.

Mrs. Christman graduated from Sikes High School in 1942. During World War II, she worked at the Munitions Plant in Minden. After that, she began working at South Central Bell as an operator and eventually retired as a PBX supervisor-instructor. She was a member of the Quota Club of Monroe for over 50 years. Sybil was recognized for her many contributions to that organization at her 50th anniversary. She was a longtime member of College Place Baptist Church in Monroe. She especially enjoyed arranging activities and outings for the Primetimers Group of senior citizens. In retirement, she loved to travel, especially to Oregon and Europe to see her family. Sybil and Emmett saw many points of interests throughout the world. She was always able to talk to anyone she met and loved to see new sites.

Sybil is survived by her husband of 63 years, Emmett S. Christman; her daughters: Debbie Risinger of Beaverton, Oregon; Jan and her husband Brad Vowell of Weilerbach, Germany; two grandchildren: Stewart Risinger of Beaverton, OR and Lynn Risinger of Eugene, OR; along with many nephews and nieces.

Serving as pallbearers are Dr. Elton Barrett, Connor Christman, Travis Davis, Travis Freeman, Russ Morrow, Mickey Charles McCarty, and Paul White.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe.
