S. H. Gaar, Dodson Merchant, Buried At New Hope

Sylvester H. Gaar, 65, of Dodson, died at 2 a.m. Saturday, February 16, at his home following a long illness.

Funeral services were conducted at the New Hope Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Sunday with Rev. H. B. Crammer, Rev. George Jones and Rev. Grafton Shaw officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home.

Acting as pallbearers were Harley Womack, J. Y. Terry, Reubin Simpkins, R. L. Smith, James Cathey, and Neil Taylor.

Mr. Gaar was born and reared in the Gaars Mill community and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Gaar, prominent farmer and merchant and was a member of the New Hope Methodist Church.

Surviving are his widow and one son, Paul Vayne Gaar of Dodson; one daughter, Mrs. Stanley Ferguson of Shreveport; one sister, Mrs. Howard Kelley of Winnfield; four brothers, Roy and Edwin of Dodson, and Willie and Shelby of Winnfield, and three grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. John Amberg preceded him in death.
