SHREVEPORT, LA -- Services for Sylvia W. Gates, 90, will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, December 27, 1996 at Rose-Neath's Marshall Street Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Norman Sutton with Broadmoor Baptist Church. Burial will be in Forest Park West, Shreveport.
Funeral home visitation will begin at 4 p.m., Thursday, December 26, 1996.
Mrs. Gates died Sunday, December 22, 1996 at The Glen Retirement Village. She was born in Arkadelphia, Ark. and had resided in Shreveport for 53 years. Mrs. Gates was a retired teacher for Caddo Parish Schools. She was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church and a former member of Queensborough Baptist Church. Mrs. Gates was a graduate of Ouachita Baptist University.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence E. Gates.
Survivors include one son, Larry Gates of Conway, AR; daughter, Sylvia Barham and husband, Gene of Hot Springs Village, AR; sister, Lynda Harris of Rogers, AR; special friends, Mr. and Mrs. E. J. French, Joey French, John French and Angela French Foster all of Shreveport; grandchildren, Robert and Lisa Gates of Conway, AR, Tricia Barham of West Palm Beach, FL, David Barham and Greg Barham both of Plano, TX; great-grandchildren, Daniel Gates and Brittany Barham; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Robert Gates, David Barham, Greg Barham, Joey French and Joe Ed Hanson.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Ouachita Baptist University.
