Thelma Godwin Barefoot

CLAYTON -- Thelma Godwin Barefoot, 91, of 106 Hogan's Way, passed away on February 24, 2004, at Rex Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center. Born in Johnston County on May 4, 1912, she was the second child of Martha Franklin Lee and John B. Leonard Godwin. Her greatest enjoyment in life was taking care of her family and visiting with family and friends. She retired in 1978 from the City Hall Snack Shop in Raleigh.

She is survived by her children, Fay Barefoot Weaver and husband, Jimmy of Cary, Bruce Lee Barefoot and wife, Diane of Savannah, GA, Pamela Barefoot Doyle of Clayton; her grandchildren, Dale Weaver and wife, Tammy of Irmo, SC, Wendy Weaver Miller and husband, Eric of Paris, VA, Heather Doyle Watson and husband, Stephen of Kinston, Emily Caroline Doyle of Clayton, and Brandy Lee Morely and husband, David of Savannah, GA; greatgrandchildren, Matthew Michael Miller and Joshua David Miller, both of Paris, VA; sisters, Hazel Godwin Barefoot of Garner, Hilda Godwin of Raleigh; brother, Bertus Godwin of Clinton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Theotis B. Barefoot; her parents, a sister, Gladys Godwin Lee, and brother, Henry Godwin.

Family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m. at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Rd., Garner, NC. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, February 27, 2004 in the chapel of BryanLee Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Dale Weaver, grandson, and Rev. Ron Fowler. Burial at Sunset Memorial Park, Hwy. 70, Smithfield.

The family wishes to express appreciation and thanks to her physicians, Dr. Wayne Harper, Dr. Richard Kane and Dr. Joseph Swaim, for their diligent medical care for so many years; to Home Bound Ministries of the First Baptist Church of Garner, to the members of the Mary Martha Bible Class, the ministerial staff of the First Baptist Church of Garner, family, and friends who continued to visit, call, and send cards long after she could no longer participate in activities. Also the family extends special thanks to the staff of Carolina House of Cary and Rex Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center.
