Final Rites Held For Thelma Dorriss Cummings
Mrs. Thelma Dorriss Cummings, 41, of Columbus, Georgia passed away
February 28th, 1969 at her home in Columbus.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 1st, 1969 at 4:00 P. M. (E.S.T.) at
the Striffler Hamby Mortuary Chapel, Columbus, with the Reverend Sidney L.
Waterhouse officiating.
Another service was held Sunday, March 2nd, at 3:00 P.M. (C.S.T.) at the First
Baptist Church of West Blocton, Alabama with the Reverend Waterhouse of
Columbus officiating and the Reverend P. F. McGuire of West Blocton assisting.
Interment was held at Mount Carmel Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were James Edward Adams and Billy Claude Hayes of
Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Charles Glen West and Jerry M. Pope of Columbus,
Georgia; James M. Lippeatt of West Blocton, Alabama and Thomas Richard
Chapple of Birmingham, Alabama.
Honorary pallbearers were David W. Daughtry of Dothan, Alabama; Floyd
Nelson Lippeatt, Kenneth Reach and Johnny Mack Reach of West Blocton,
Alabama; Howard E. Jones, Lonnie Smith and James Boggs of Columbus,
Georgia; Max Sumner of Tampa, Florida; and Dewey O. Deason of Merritt
Island, Florida.
Born in Bibb County, Alabama on June 24, 1927, Mrs. Cummings is survived
by her parents, John M. and Esther Hayes and one daughter, Linda Ann
Cummings, all of Columbus, Georgia.
