Funeral services for Thelma “Sammie” Martin, 86, will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe, LA with Reverend Rick Crandall and Marty Carroll officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Calhoun, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of West Monroe.

Mrs. Martin was born October 15, 1924 in Paris [sic Maypearl], Texas and passed away November 27, 2010 in West Monroe, LA. She was married for 47 years, a dedicated nursery worker for many years at McClendon Baptist Church, and an accomplished seamstress who completed many bridal gowns and dresses.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Conny Martin; son, Richard Allen Prestridge; and grandchildren Staci Shackelford and Dana Kay Baker.

She is survived by three daughters, Jimmie Nell Phillips and husband Ken of Columbus, MS, Connie Jo Martin of Canton, GA, and Debbie Baker and husband Steve of West Monroe; her beloved canine companion, Cooper; nine grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to express our love and gratitude to her special care taker Renee Looney, who mother lovingly referred to as her “other daughter.”

Pallbearers will be Charles Martin, Jr., Chuck Martin, Brad Nelson, Justin Higdon, Tommy Martin, and Matt Phillips.

Visitation is Tuesday, November 30 from 10:00 AM until service time at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of West Monroe.
