Thelma Pitts McCarty

TALLULAH -- Thelma Pitts McCarty died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at Madison Parish Hospital. She was 79.

Born in Baton Rouge, Mrs. McCarty had lived in Madison Parish for 30 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Willow Bayou Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Basil Lee McCarty; and a daughter, Leatrice Joy McCarty.

She is survived by three sons, Wilfred L. McCarty of Pineville, La., Lonnie M. McCarty of Oakdale, La., and Basil A. McCarty of DeRidder, La.; two daughters, Lois Ann Strothman of Jackson and Molly Matthews of Tallulah; two sisters, Augusta Smitherman of Walker, La., and Willie Sue Jackson of Bastrop, La.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Gaston officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tallulah.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Basil A. McCarty, Lonnie M. McCarty, Johnie L. Matthews III, Charles E. Strothman, Nathaniel L. Matthews, Christopher R. Matthews, Johnie L. Matthews IV and Basil Dion McCarty.

Honorary pallbearers will be Scott McCarty and Johnie L. Matthews.
