THOMAS DENT SMITH
Funeral service for Thomas Dent Smith, 33, resident of 1844 Lindsey Drive, Laurel, were held Monday at 2 p.m. from Palestine Baptist church, near Montrose, with the Rev. M. E. Brooks officiating.
Interment was in the church cemetery with Memory Chapel in charge of arrangements.
Active pallbearers were Sidney Smith, Sam Smith, Amos McCarty, Lamar McCarty, Hugh McCarty, and Sam Read. Honorary pallbearers were W. A. Moody, employees of Laurel Typewriter Company, for whom Mr. Smith worked, and all friends of the family.
Mr. Smith died suddenly at his residence Saturday morning. He had been an employee of Laurel Typewriter Company, and a resident of Laurel for the past 10 years. He was a veteran of World War II, a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and the VFW.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Shirley Smith; one daughter, Miss Karen Smith; three sons, Jerry Smith, Dennis Smith and David Smith, all of Laurel; mother, Mrs. Dent Smith, Montrose; three sisters, Mrs. William Lewis, Laurel, Mrs. Martin Stamper, Montrose, and Mrs. A. E. Tolbert [sic E. E. Talbert], Mobile; two brothers, Truman L. Smith, Mobile, and Jessie T. Smith, Levelland, Texas.
