Thomas E. Whittington

Thomas E. Whittington, 84, of Liberty, died May 31, 2002, at Liberty Community Living Center.

Visitation is 2 p.m. today at Middleton Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Meadville until religious services there at 3 p.m. The Rev. Thomas Griffin will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Brown Funeral Home of Gloster is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Whittington was born Feb. 13, 1918, in Amite County, the son of Cary and Winnie Bass Whittington.

He was a retired farmer and member of Middleton Creek Primitive Baptist Church. While serving in in the U.S. Army, he landed on Normandy Beach in June 1944 and fought all the way to Berlin through 1945. He fought in Normandy, northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and central Europe.

Mr. Whittington was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Paul Whittington.

Survivors include one sister, Grace Steele of Liberty, and two brothers, Morris Whittington of Decatur, Ala., and Glen Whittington of Meadville.

Pallbearers will be members of Mr. Whittington's church.
