PIONEER CITIZEN BURIED IN OLD MT. ZION CEMETERY NORTH OF McCOMB, TUESDAY

Thos. J. Whittington, one of the most prosperous and progressive farmers of Lincoln County, and a pioneer citizen of McComb died, at his home Tuesday morning at 6:30 o'clock, November 26. Death had been expected for several days by the friends of the venerable man. Since January when he suffered a stroke of apoplexy, he has been in failing health.

Mr. Whittington was in youth an early citizen of McComb, being numbered among the first employees of the J. J. White Lumber Company. For over a half century he was a Baptist, and over 60 years ago lived in McComb.

Mr. Whittington was the father of 11 children. Nine survive him: Mrs. L. F. Magee, Tylertown; Miss Estelle Whittington, Norfield, Joe W. of Meadville; Frank, of McComb; T. E., of Worcester, Mass.; Mrs. Florence May, of Montgomery; Mrs. Maye Gammill, of Bude; and Mrs. Bernice Prestridge of Norfield.

Mr. Whittington is also survived by his wife, 18 grandchildren and four great grandchildren, as well as his brothers and sisters, Mrs. Ophelia Hammond, of Shreveport; Mrs. Wm. Gatlin, McComb; John Jones and WIllie Jones of McComb and Hollis Jones, of Dallas, Texas.

The funeral was held from the Mt. Zion Church in Franklin county and the body was tenderly laid to rest in the Mt. Zion cemetery.

The deceased was recognized as a highly respected, and useful citizen. His home is 6 miles northwest of Summit. Until three years ago when he suffered a siege of pneumonia, Mr. Whittington was in excellent health. The community will miss this good man.
