Thomas `Julius' Burt

Services for Thomas ``Julius'' Burt, of Brookhaven, are 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, at Brookhaven Funeral Home Chapel on Natchez Drive with burial in Arlington Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation is Tuesday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Burt, 84, died Nov. 24, 2008, at Haven Hall Healthcare Center. He was born in Pascagoula on Dec. 9, 1923, to Thomas Decater Burt and Effie Inez McLaughlin Burt.

He retired from the Mississippi State Highway Department. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Jimmy Lynn Burt; a brother, Hoover Burt; and a sister, Opal Burt.

Survivors are his wife, Myrtle Marie Freeman Burt, of Brookhaven; his sons, Julius William Burt and wife, Judy, Larry Dale Burt and wife, Becky, and Lee Van Burt and wife, Lisa, all of Brookhaven; a daughter, Audrey Burt Allgood and husband, Clyde, of Wesson; a brother, Roffie Burt, of Brookhaven; his sisters, Agnes Williams and Inez Thornhill, both of Brookhaven, Hilda Penner, of California, Sandra Ratcliff, of Florida, and Barbara McCraken, of Austin, Texas; his nine grandchildren, Brad Burt, Allison Graham, Jim Burt, Tom Burt, Megan Burt, Ryan Burt, Misty Morrison, Stacy Brister and Clay Johnson; his 12 great-grandchildren, Katelyn Morrison, Jesse and Cotton Brister, Devin, Justin and Dillon Burt, Brittany Reeves, Abigail Graham, Nikki Burt, Kyle, Cheyenne and Brooks Burt; a great-great-grandchild, Haley Reeves; his step-grandchildren, Hanna and Trevor Davis and Jake Smith.
