Dr. Thomas Trussell

Dr. Thomas Weems Trussell, 66, died Wednesday (Jan. 1, 2003) at his home in Little Rock.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Nona Lee Bryant Trussell, and his father, Lawrence Weems Trussell, both of Fordyce, and a granddaughter, Mattie Anne Trussell of Little Rock.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Priscilla Gene Provine Trussell, originally of Arkadelphia.

He is also survived by four children, Nona Lucille Boatright of Lexington, Ky., Thomas Weems Trussell Jr. of Conway, Lawrence Eugene Trussell of Conway and Charles Benjamin Trussell of Little Rock; five grandchildren, Joseph Lawrence Trussell, Martin Andrew Trussell, Abbey Lauren Trussell, Hunter Rowland Trussell and Parker Thomas Trussell, all of Conway.

Born March 12, 1936, as the only child of two Fordyce attorneys, Tom graduated as salutatorian from Fordyce High School, and attended Hendrix College in Conway and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock.

After receiving his MD degree, he served in the United States Health Service, stationed in Illinois and West Virginia. Subsequently, he joined a medical clinic in Olney, Texas, where he practiced for 12 years. In 1978, he returned to practice in the Little Rock area until he retired.

Dr. Trussell was a loving husband, father, grandfather, doctor and friend. He liked nothing better than a rough gemstone to polish, a science fiction novel, a new joke or a small unique gift to give away.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth Custom Funerals & Cremations, 5800 West 12th Street, Little Rock, 661-9111. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. James United Methodist Church on Pleasant Valley Drive in Little Rock. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery in Fordyce.
