Thompson Taunton

FERRIDAY -- Services for Thompson Taunton will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Young's with the Revs. Henry Staggs and Clayton Perry officiating. Burial will be in Taunton Cemetery, Harrisonburg.

Taunton, 77, of Ferriday died Wednesday in St. Frances Cabrini Hospital, Alexandria.

He was a resident of Ferriday for 47 years and owner and operator of Taunton's Ferriday Superette since 1963. He also worked at Purvis Pontiac for 22 years. He was a member of Ferriday First Church of God and was a U.S. Army master sergeant for 14 years. He was a native of Jonesville.

Survivors include his wife, Lezena B. Taunton of Ferriday; two sons, Thomas Doyle ``Bo'' Taunton and Bert Taunton, both of Ferriday; three daughters, Angela Sue Gray of Ferriday, Phyllis Spillers of Vidalia and Dona Sandel of Natchez, Miss.; one brother, T.D. ``Doc'' Taunton of Vidalia; one sister, Nannie Bass of Jonesville; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home.
