Man drowns at Creston

NATCHITOCHES -- A Lafayette man drowned Wednesday night when his boat overturned while he and a friend were fishing in Black Lake at Creston, authorities said.

A rescue team recovered the body of Travis H. Hall, 41, at about 12:09 a.m. Thursday in 15 feet of water near the spot where the boat capsized, said a Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Department spokesman.

Hall and the unidentified friend were checking lines behind Black Lake Lodge when they apparently attempted to switch seats, causing the boat to overturn. Hall's companion swam to shore and was not hurt, the spokesman said.

The spokesman said neither fishermen was wearing a life jacket although two life preservers were in the boat at the time of the incident.
