Trowley John Whitten
(August 26, 1912 - February 14, 2013)

Funeral services for Trowley J. Whitten, age 100 , of Grayson, will be held 2 PM Saturday February 16, 2013 from the Columbia chapel of Riser Funeral Home with Rev.James Carson and Bro. Todd Whittington officiating . Interment will follow in the Adams Cemetery at Kelly.

Visitation will be on Friday Feb.15, 2013 at the funeral home located at 7131 Hwy 165; from 5 pm until 9 pm. Saturday's visitation will be from 10 am until time of service at the funeral home.

Trowley John Whitten was born on August 26, 1912 in Grayson, to his parents Joseph Godfrey Whitten and Gracie Allene (Dunn) Whitten. He passed from this life on February 14, 2013 at the Citizens Medical Center in Columbia. Mr. Whitten was a Timberman, having worked prior to World War II, and returned to that vocation after the war. Trowley saw many changes in the world during his lifetime span of one hundred years, five months, and nineteen days, but never forgot the days of hewing cross ties by hand with ax. Trowley was a School Bus Driver with the Caldwell Parish School System, and he was loved and respected by every student who ever rode his bus, and he was remembered long after he retired with twenty-six years of service. He was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corp having served in World War II.

Trowley was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruby Lee (Carpenter) Whitten, his daughter, JoAnn (Whitten) Meredith; son-in-law, H.R. “Sonny” Whittington, and daughter-in-law, Glenda Faye (Gilmore) Whitten; four grandsons, Kevin Godfrey Whitten, Larry Dean Whittington, Guy Deanie Whitten, and Deanie Guy Whitten; a great grandchild David Young ,and he was also preceded by his brothers, Gordon Edward Whitten, Vester Hines Whitten, Rodolph Conrad Whitten, and Doil Greer Whitten; and his sisters, Clellon Whitten Blue, and Virgie Katherine Jones.

Survivors include: two sons, Godfrey Whitten and wife Jean of Grayson, and Guy Whitten and wife Norma, of Kelly; his daughter, Johnnie Lea Whittington of Grayson, nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and fifteen great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other extended family members and many friends.

Pallbearers include: J. C. McCoy, Kyle Broussard, Gil Broussard, Richard Whittington, Eddie Whitten, Chuck Barrett, and Conrad Whitten.

Honorary pallbearers include Sheriff Steve May and Officers of the Caldwell Parish Sheriff's Office, Glen Barnhill, Bob Pardue, Carl Comeaux, and all employees and patrons of the Caldwell Parish Council on Aging.

The Whitten Family would like to take this opportunity, to sincerely thank the Haven Nursing Center, management and staff, for the kind and loving care they gave to their father and grandfather during the last four and one half years., especially his main caregiver Cynthia Moran.
