Troy McCarty

MIDLAND -- Services for Troy A. McCarty, 77, of Midland were scheduled for 3 p.m. today at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. F. Ray Riddle, chaplain of Hospice of Midland, officiating.

Burial was to be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Mr. McCarty died Saturday at his residence. He was born Nov. 16, 1910, in Winn Parish, La. He married Alice Philips May 1, 1930 [sic 1939], in Haskell.

Mr. McCarty had been a resident of Midland since 1950. He attended Louisiana Tech University where he studied petroleum engineering. He worked for Humble Oil for two years and in the 1930s went to work for Sharp Drilling Co. He became president of the company in 1967. He had been the owner since 1972 and retired in 1975.

He was a member of the Permian Basin Petroleum Pioneers and served as president of the Board of Equalization. He had been a member of the Oil Well Drilling Contractors Association.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jerrice Pratt of Midland; and a sister, G. S. Tyler Avery Pratt of Midland.

The family suggests memorials to Hospice of Midland.

Ellis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
