Troy Lee `Cotton' Tubbs
Funeral services for Troy Lee ``Cotton'' Tubbs 83 years old, of Conway, were held on Thursday, April 12, 2007 at 10 a.m. at Conway Baptist Church, Conway with Bro. Terry Mims and Bro. Matt Taylor officiating. Burial followed in Conway Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Farmerville.
Born on August 2, 1923, in Union Parish, he passed away on April 10, 2007, at Union General Hospital in Farmerville following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's. ``Cotton'' as he was known by his old friends, was a retired pipfitter with IMC of Sterlington, LA. He bravely served our country in World War II in the U.S. Army, Troop B, 112th Calvary. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific campaign medal with 2 bronze stars, a purple heart and the World War II victory medal. He was a member of Conway Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Jess and Aliphair Hodge Tubbs, brother and sister-in-law, Travis and Hazel Tubbs, brothers-in-law, Dewitt Daniels and George Earl Kyle, infant brother, Jack, sisters, Florene and Sybil, infant grandson, Anthony Ryan Cole, and infant, great-grandson, Cooper Wyatt Englerth.
Survivors include: his wife of sixty years, Dorothy Shadic Tubbs, of Conway; daughters, Charlotte Johnston and husband, Van, of Downsville, Judy Cole and husband, Dickey, Shirley Rowell, Kathy Simpson and husband, Kenny, all of Conway; grandchildren, Shannon Johnston Barkley and husband, Kevin, John Van Johnston, Jr. Allison Johnston Isaac and husband Barry, all of Downsville; Jay Johnston and wife Wendy of West Monroe; Brad Rowell, April Simpson Kaheiki and husband Thomas, Kim Cole Englerth and husband, Will, all of Connway; Shawn Simpson and wife Vannette, of Sterlington; and Toni Cole Edwards and husband, Matt, of Bishop, Ga.; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Pauline Daniels and Melba Kyle of Conway; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Brad Rowell, Jay Johnston and Shawn Simpson, nephews, Jerry Daniels and Kim Kyle, and cousin Gary Tubbs. Honorary pallbearers were grandson, John Johnston, nephews, Danny Tucker and Gene Shadic and longtime friend, Corbertt Dison. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, and raising a vegetable garden.
Even though he lost his sight years ago, he received great joy in teaching his grandsons to hunt for squirrels and deer and fish for bream on his beloved ``the Louter'', Bayou D'Loutre. Known to his grandchildren as Pappaw or just Pap, he was dearly loved by them.
