Valeria Pinkston

Valeria Chappell Pinkston, 89, of Ridgeland, died Saturday, March 8, 2008, in St. Dominic Jackson Memorial Hospital. A funeral service was held Wednesday, March 12, at Trace Ridge Baptist Church with burial following in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Ridgeland handled the arrangements.

Mrs. Pinkston was born July 22, 1918, in Dixon, Tenn., the youngest of five children of the late M.D. Chappell and Liddie Margaret Chappell. At a young age, her family moved to Humnboldt, Tenn. and Mrs. Pinkston graduated from Humboldt High School. During World War II she worked in the Wolf Creek Ordinance Plant, where she assisted in the production of artillery shells used in the war.

Mrs. Pinkston married William O. ``Pinkie'' Pinkston in February 1948 in Oxford. She worked as a bookkeeper for Crouch's Jewelry Store and K's Bar B-Q. While living in Oxford she was a member of First Baptist Church.

After retirement her family moved to Southaven where she worked as a customer service representative. Mr. and Mrs. Pinkston moved to Ridgeland to be close to their family and Mrs. Pinkston was a member of Trace Ridge Baptist Church. She was predeceased by her husband.

Survivors include her son, Dr. William C. ``Chappie'' Pinkston of Ridgeland; one grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
