Vassar Dawson Boykin
GLOSTER -- Services for Vassar Dawson Boykin, 82, of Greenwell Springs, La., who died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at Lane Memorial Hospital in Zachary, will be at 11 a.m. today at Brown Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Robert Toney and Ed Jelks officiating. Burial will be in the Newhope [sic New Hope] Cemetery in Gloster under the direction of Brown Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 9 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Boykin was born Aug. 13, 1919, in Amite County, the daughter of L.H. Dawson and Ruby Whittington Dawson. She was a homemaker and a member of Crosby Methodist Church.
Mrs. Boykin was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood Boykin; her parents; and six brothers and sisters, Mann Dawson, Eugene Dawson, Roger Dawson, Wilmer Dawson, Lexia Whittington and Lazelle Boykin.
Survivors include 10 children and their spouses, L.H. and Charlotte Boykin of Morgan City, Gavin Boykin of Gloster, Mary Carol and Joe Bonck of Central, Kermit and Diane Boykin of Centreville, Retha Joy and Murray Toney of Gloster, Lenda and George Freeman of Jonesboro, Veronica and Sidney Plaisance of Ferriday, Scarlet and J.B. Collier of Greenwell Springs, Terry and Terry Summers of Central and Jerry Boykin of Gloster; 23 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn Havard of Baton Rouge, La., and Kathryn Thorton of Gloster; and one brother, Billy Dawson of Jackson.
Pallbearers will be Shannon Boykin, Dale Boykin, Kermie Boykin, Kenny Boykin, Jeremy Boykin, Bennett Rogers, Clay Boykin, Patrick Morrison and Cody Freeman.
