Velma Bernice Sturgis
NATCHEZ -- Funeral services for Velma Bernice Sturgis, 80, of Natchez, who died March 16, 2010 at St. Francis Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria, will be 2 p.m. Saturday March 20, 2010 at First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Don Slider and Rev. Victor Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Saturday at the church 12 Noon until service time.
Mrs. Sturgis was born November12, 2010 in Wisner, LA the daughter of Issac Hamilton Traver and Frances Elizabeth Thornton Tarver. She was a Sunday School Teacher for many years and was President of the Ladies Missionary Council.. Mrs. Sturgis is preceded in death by her parents and three sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include her husband, Leland Gayle Sturgis of Natchez; three daughters, Linda Varnado of Natchez, Pamela Tracy of Memphis and Barbara Hinson of Natchez; 10 grandchildren, Bill Varnado of Jackson, Charlie Varnado of Natchez, Thomas Tracy, Jr. of Franklin, Tenn,, Lacie McElwee of Natchez, Dustin Smith of Natchez, Sarah Hinson of Natchez, Kendra Hinson Warren of Broookhaven, Megan Hinson of Natchez, Taylor Hinson of Natchez and Britton Hinson of Natchez; eight greatgrandchildren; one sister, Florence Bankston of Natchez and one brother, Vince Tarver of Lake Charles, LA .
Pallbearers will be Gary McIntosh, Wade Tarver, Bruce Tarver, Don Tarver. Thomas Tracy and Taylor Hinson.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
