Velma Christine Harris
November 23, 1935 - March 4, 2013

Velma Christine Harris, age 77, a resident of Los Lunas, was born November 23, 1935 in Rocky Mount, Louisiana, and passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2013, at her Los Lunas home, surrounded by loved ones. Velma, who was known by her family and friends as Chris, was a loving and devoted wife of fifty six years and a loving mother to her four sons.

Chris always put her family first, even if it meant that she had to go without. She is well known for her sense of family, strength, and those who knew her best, knew of the selfless sacrifices she made when necessary. She made these sacrifices in silent and never asked for anything in return. She was the kind of wife and mother that was always there for her family no matter what the circumstance. She dealt with the hard times and the good in what seemed to be calm perseverance, and was always the epitome of a lady. Make no mistake, if her family was mistreated or in harms way, the country girl in her would become fiercely protective and could dish out a verbal lashing like no other. The end result was always for the benefit of her very tight knit family. She was a very tough, sweet lady that was very respected by her family and all those who knew her. She will be deeply missed and always remembered.

Chris was preceded in death by her mother, Lois Martin; her father, Lochel McKinney; and her sister, Elaine Hays.

Chris is survived by her husband, Clifford Harris; her four sons and their families, John and Debra Harris of Los Lunas, Carson and Elizabeth Harris of Albuquerque, William Harris of Albuquerque, James and Teresa Harris of Belen; and her three sisters, Alice Bounds of Plain Dealing La, Bernice Linebaugh of Bossier City La, and Dolores McKinney of Winfield La.

In addition to the four sons and their immediate families, Chris is survived by eight grand children, John Harris Jr. and his wife Jennifer, and their two children Samantha and Clarissa, Connie Harris, Kelli Harris, David Harris, his wife Ashley and their daughter Luna, Damian Harris, Hilary Harris, and Crystal Harris.

Services will be held at the Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel, Saturday, March 9, beginning with a viewing at 9:00 a.m., and the funeral at 10:00 a.m. The burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
