Velma Elaine Cary
Velma Elaine Cary, 93, of Hollis, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Hollis.
Funeral services were held at 2 pm Thursday, Sept. 9, at the Church of Christ in Hollis. Interment followed in the Fairmount Cemetery in Hollis.
Velma Williams was born Sept. 20, 1916, to Dick and Annie Williams in Saint Jo, TX. She has lived ninety years in Harmon County.
She married Robert Cecil Cary on Jan. 29, 1938, in Hollis.
Mrs. Cary was a long time, faithful member of the Church of Christ at both Martin and Dodson. She also was a 75 year member of the LaCasa Home Demonstration Club and was an ardent participant in the Harmon County Fair. She served as a board member for SWODA and enjoyed food and fellowship at the Hollis meal site. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include; three sons, Cecil Don Cary and his wife Ellen of Marlow, Dale Lee Cary and his wife Mary Ruth of Cisco, TX, and Richard Norman Cary of Oklahoma City; one sister Dorma Shaw of Edmond; 10 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and seven sisters-in-law, Marvelle Wright, Wanda Cary, and Mary Beth Williams all of Hollis, Dee Williams of Azle, TX, Peggy Williams of Rowlett, TX, Jewell Morse (Bob) of OKC, and Lucille Bible (Grant) of Sulphur Springs, TX.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Cecil Cary; her parents, Dick and Annie Williams; and four brothers, Odell, Marvin, Andrew, and Darrell.
