BELTON [sic VELTON] WOODARD

JENA (Special) -- Services are scheduled for Belon [sic Velton] Woodard, 36, who died Thursday evening at his home in Jena.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 this morning at Jena Church of God. Riser and Son Funral Hall [sic Funeral Home] will handle services. Interment will be in Hair Cemetery in Jena.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Saville Woodward, Jena; one daughter, Marilyn Rose Woodard, Jena, and a son, Ancel Woodard, also of Jena.

Velton Woodard is Heart Attack Victim at Work Thursday

Velton Woodard, 37, formerly of Jena, but more recently living in Wisner and working in Sicily Island as a truck driver for A. B. Chisum, gravel contractor, died suddenly and almost instantaneously last Thursday afternoon shortly before 3 o'clock while at work.

Mr. Woodard reportedly had started to get out of his truck after arriving at a gravel pit for another load when he was stricken. By the time nearby workmen could reach him, he reportedly was dead.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Church of God in Jena, with the Rev. J. W. Blow conducting the final rites. Interment followed in Hair Cemetery under the direction of Riser and Son Funeral Home of Columbia.

Mr. Woodard is survived by his mother, Mrs. LaVella [sic Savilla] Woodard of Jena; a son, Ancil of Jena; a daughter, Marilyn Ros of Jena; a sister, Enola Woodard of Jena; four aunts, Mrs. Mae McHaney, Mrs. Gertie Benson, Mrs. Gladys Norman, and Mrs. Izy Ainsworth, all of Jena, and two uncles, Ferman and Floyd Brown, both of Jena.

Serving as pallbearers for the final rites were Oliver Neal, LeRoy Rodriguez, Morgan Baker, Dalton Coleman, Woodrow Joy and Ivan Hinson.
