VERA E. ANKETELL

Vera Elizabeth Holman Bishop Anketell, age 94, our beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 19, 1996, of causes incident to age.

She was born February 18, 1902, in Eastdale, Colorado, a daughter of James Sanford Holman and Mary Aagard Holman, the fourth daughter, and seventh child in the family.She married Walter Baxter Bishop May 10, 1922, and two sons were born to them, Robert Baxter Bishop, and Garth Aagard Bishop. Later divorced. Her son Garth preceded her in death February 26, 1951.

Vera was a devoted mother and dedicated school teacher. She raised her sons with no financial help from anyone. She married Thomas A. Anketell, November 3, 1948. Together they enjoyed skiing, square dancing. Later divorced.

Vera was known for her independence, her energy, dignity and graciousness. She traveled widely, and had many business interests. She participated in many organizations throughout her busy and varied life, including Gold Star Mothers, and University Women's Club. She was a member of DUP and also a member of the LDS Church.

Survivors include one son, Robert B. Bishop and wife Jone, daughter-in-law Sherma Lamb Bishop, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, sister Vidella H. Nielson, numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her son Garth, three brothers, and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 22, 11 a.m., at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah. Visitation will be one half hour before the funeral.

Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
