Verla Hall McDaniel
Verla Hall McDaniel, 80, of Duncan went to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006, at the Wilkins Nursing Center.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday in the Ray of Hope Church with the Rev. Mike McCord officiating. Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery at Comanche under direction of the Bailes-Polk Funeral Home.
Verla was born Dec. 28, 1925 in Comanche to James W. and Laura Ensey Hall. She married Billy Edwin ``Bill'' McDaniel in Comanche on March 15, 1945.
She graduated from Comanche High School in 1943, received an associate's degree from the Texas Women University in 1945, a bachelor's degree from Oklahoma Women's College at Chickasha in 1962, and a master's degree in Education from the University of Central Oklahoma at Edmond in 1980.
Although her family was her greatest joy, she also enjoyed any opportunity to teach others. While raising her children she was very active in the Methodist Church in Comanche as a Sunday School Teacher and Youth Sponsor. Later, she returned to college and began a new career, teaching English and Spanish in Bray, Walters, Duncan, and Velma.
She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, the American Association of University Women, Book Review Club, and was a very active volunteer with the Literacy Council specializing in English as a Second Language.
Survivors include her husband: Bill McDaniel of the home; two sons: Terry B. McDaniel and wife, Judy, of North Charleston, S.C., and Billy W. ``Buddy'' McDaniel and wife, Beverly, of Duncan; a brother: Leonard Hall of Bethany; two sisters: Thelma Forest and husband, Birdeen, of Dell City, and Verdeen Wolf Phillips of Bethany; five grandchildren and their spouses; three great-grandchildren; and serveral nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and three sisters.
Bearers will be the three grandsons: Brian, Braden and Monty McDaniel; nephews: Steve McCord and Larry Hall; and Terry Dennard. Honorary bearer is George Clopton.
In Lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Comanche United Methodist Church or to Wesley United Methodist Church in Duncan.
